+ [higher] EDUCATION
Colleges and universities around the world are in an unbalanced situation. Countries with money have more advanced higher education programs. Looking at the various rankings among several academic institutions showcases this disparity. The irony is that the beneficiaries of higher education, whether it is the professors, students, or alumni, will be the leaders in any development sectors of their country.
While still keeping in mind the macro and global political economy context, we should always be aware that the comparative metrics of academic institution achievement are dependent on places of collaboration: lecture rooms, laboratories, studios, workshops, seminars, conference rooms, and the various spaces of professional practices conducted by professors, researchers, students, and alumni. The academic communities from both ends of the ranking scale that recognize this disadvantage should work together through a more equitable and accessible space of collaboration.
Since 2021 we have been working on a compilation of World University Rankings, which is a compilation of five most popular World University Rankings: ARWU, CWUR, QS, THE and US NEWS plus three other rankings which are more focusing on research and publication performance of the universities: CWTS, URAP, and WEBOMETRICS.
One of main findings of these project is a strong correlation between the advancement of higher education institution of a country and its progressive development. A map of World Class University Index may clearly describe the reality.
